IBSL is pleased to announce that it has been chosen as the British Deaf Association’s awarding organisation. Following this announcement in January 2012, an extensive series of training days will now be held throughout 2012 to familiarise people now delivering BDA sign language courses with the IBSL assessment system. Please keep an eye on our training pages for these events, which will also be publicised in the British Deaf News.

National Occupational Standards in Sign Linguistics

IBSL is taking the lead in developing a set of National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Sign Linguistics.

The NOS describe the skills and knowledge an individual needs in order to utilise Sign Linguistics in their employment role in a consistent and competent way. These standards will help create a progression route for those wanting to acquire qualifications in Sign Linguistics and to benchmark qualifications and training. The aim is to raise the professional status of those who use Sign Linguistics as part of their work.

In this development, we are working with DCAL and other interested bodies, including the British Deaf Association and Signature.
