External Examiner Training

A key part of the IBSL qualification delivery is its External Examiner programme. IBSL does not operate a NVQ system for its qualifications, which are classified as vocational, but relies on Coursework Files for Levels 2, 3 and 4.

External Examiners (previously known as External Moderators) have a specific role within IBSL (Please ask for our External Examiner Guidelines). They should be in possession of an appropriate qualification, or be working towards one. It is essential that External Examiners should be occupationally competent in the required language, British Sign Language.

Those who wish to become External Examiners should possess the following:

  • A recognised External Verifier qualification OR
  • A recognised External Moderator qualification
  • A recognised BSL qualification at Level 4
Training is free for those who are invited to become External Examiner for IBSL.

The next External Examiner training will be held at Warrington in 2012 (date to be confirmed)
